E-Legal Ideas … for Practicing Law

Pushing the Practice of Law over the Internet

Going Green

Reducing your carbon footprint is not easy in the practice of law considering the boxes full of paper that are generated for every case. The traditional means of serving documents compounds the problem as it requires multiple copies of large documents to be sent to counsel for every other party in that case. Similarly, serving documents by fax only shifts the production of paper to the recipient. Simply put, the old way is not environmentally friendly.

NetLegal allows you to reduce this by creating a secure online case repository. You can then electronically serve the other parties to the case by inviting their counsel by email or fax to join your case on NetLegal. There is no cost for them to join and to receive documents.

Joining NetLegal does not require you to accept all documents served on you. You still have the choice to accept or reject documents being served on you after viewing a one page preview of the document. Try NetLegal by registering for free here on our website.

Given that the continued growth in the amount of paper generated from electronic sources, what else can be done to reduce the amount of paper generated in litigation? What changes in process or new technologies can we implement?

Please post your thoughts in the comments.
